The Midterm will cover the following key learning objectives: Make Inferences, Determine theme,Analyze character motivation, Determine central idea and details, Arguments in informational text. Grammar components: Subject-verb agreement, Verb tense, and Infinitive functions. Please study these concepts.
Students need to be able to make inferences based on what they read, for example they will be given a passage to read and the questions will ask them to infer (make a logical guess) about the characters,events, or information given in that passage. Also they will read a passage and analyze(break down) what the theme is in the story. (message or lesson in the story). Make Inferences, Determine theme,Analyze character motivation, Determine central idea and details.
Subject-verb agreement, Verb tense, and Infinitive functions.
Students will need to edit/revise a passage for example they will be given a passage and the terms listed above will be a determining factor for them to decipher the concept is to edit and revise.
Arguments in informational text.
Claims offer critical solutions to intellectual problems; they suggests to readers that they ought to change the way they think or act with regard to the problem at hand. Because a claim is always debatable, it must always be based on reasons.
Reasons provide your logical basis for making a claim. Because your reasoning is always debatable, it must always be based on evidence.
Evidence provides the logical basis for your reasoning; it consists of incontestable facts that lend concrete support to your claim.
Warrants are the values or beliefs on which your reasoning depends. A warrant acts as a as given, but it shouldn’t be taken for granted. You should know what your warrant is so you can judge if your readers will share it or not.
Acknowledgement recognizes the alternate claims that run counter to the claim you have made. Response indicates your degree of disagreement with the counter-claims at hand.
The test has 44 multiple choice questions and 2 response questions.

The Midterm will cover the following key learning objectives: Make Inferences, Determine theme,Analyze character motivation, Determine central idea and details, Arguments in informational text. Grammar components: Subject-verb agreement, Verb tense, and Infinitive functions. Please study these concepts.
Students need to be able to make inferences based on what they read, for example they will be given a passage to read and the questions will ask them to infer (make a logical guess) about the characters,events, or information given in that passage. Also they will read a passage and analyze(break down) what the theme is in the story. (message or lesson in the story). Make Inferences, Determine theme,Analyze character motivation, Determine central idea and details.
Subject-verb agreement, Verb tense, and Infinitive functions.
Students will need to edit/revise a passage for example they will be given a passage and the terms listed above will be a determining factor for them to decipher the concept is to edit and revise.
Arguments in informational text.
Claims offer critical solutions to intellectual problems; they suggests to readers that they ought to change the way they think or act with regard to the problem at hand. Because a claim is always debatable, it must always be based on reasons.
Reasons provide your logical basis for making a claim. Because your reasoning is always debatable, it must always be based on evidence.
Evidence provides the logical basis for your reasoning; it consists of incontestable facts that lend concrete support to your claim.
Warrants are the values or beliefs on which your reasoning depends. A warrant acts as a as given, but it shouldn’t be taken for granted. You should know what your warrant is so you can judge if your readers will share it or not.
Acknowledgement recognizes the alternate claims that run counter to the claim you have made. Response indicates your degree of disagreement with the counter-claims at hand.
The test has 44 multiple choice questions and 2 response questions.
